Behind the Scenes
CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST PRESTON MENESES
Celebrity makeup artist Preston Meneses was born and raised in Hawaii. From an early age, he developed a skilled eye for creating beauty – for all skin tones, face shapes, and ethnicities. He was first drawn to makeup and inspired by the craft when he would meet beautiful women who lacked the confidence to see the beauty in themselves. That included his mom. But a major early influence in Preston’s development as a young makeup artist was Kevyn’s first book The Art of Makeup – which inspired Preston to practice makeup techniques on his sisters and friends, much like Kevyn did. At the age of 16, Preston started working professionally. He auditioned to be a dancer for Janet Jackson and didn’t make the final cut; but, he was later called by Janet’s team to do makeup for her back-up dancers.
The work eventually led him to artistry for Janet Jackson herself – and the 2006 Billboard Awards. Today, Preston has become one of the most sought-after makeup artists in Hollywood. In addition to his ongoing relationship with Ms. Jackson, he has worked closely with top celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Halle Berry, Carmen Electra, Courtney Love, Camilla Alves McConaughey, Havana Brown, Erika Jane, Nia Sioux, Cedella Marley, Rita Marley, GRL Girl Group, Robin Antin, Kelis, Thelma Houston, and Cheryl Hines. His art has graced the covers of Harpers Bazaar, Arabia Magazine, Emirates Women, Billboard – and he’s been featured in People Magazine, Shape, OK, Vanity Fair Italy, FHM, Prevention, Vogue, Instyle and Essence.
